Look through the threads in this section of the forum; there is tons of information for you. If you want a reasonably authentic action for $1,000, you could get a new Yamaha P-90, or a used P-120 or P-250. Roland and Kawaii make models that are overall similar to the Yamahas, so look around. Check those out on the repsective websites. For Yamaha, go to https://www.yamahasynth.com/products/index.html and click on the models in the "Electronic Pianos" section.

In any case, do not, I repeat, do not, let me say it again, do not buy anything you have not thoroughly checked out for yourself in a store. It is not so much the money, but you need to find an instrument that YOU are happy with. It's really not different from shopping for an acoustic. If you are in the US, visit the nearest GuitarCenter. They often give away floor models for a huge discount (one can always ask).

Good luck.
