Disney Piano cartoon
on: April 24, 2005, 05:39:02 AM
Growing up (in the 80's), I remember a cartoon that would play on the Disney channel (I think).  It was about a kid that went to piano lessons and then one day his piano started playing great pieces no matter what keys he hit (I think the piano even started to talk to the boy).  Everyone was astounded and the boy started touring and playing recitals and concerts all over with his "special" piano.  I seem to remember the Grieg piano concerto in there some where, and maybe the Revolutionary Etude too...?  At the end he wakes up and it was all a dream, I THINK!

It's all a little blurry.  Does anyone rememebr this cartoon or have the title to it?  It'd be great to track it down and watch it again.

whoops. Minute waltz is what I ment. Anyway, the cartoon I was talking about was called 'sparky's magic piano'.  I found a synopsis on the net, it sounds like the one:

"An eight-year-old boy who hates to practice the piano, one day realizes his piano is magic and soon, to the amazement of all, he is a "gifted" virtuoso. But soon Sparky's success goes to his head."

Wow.  That's amazing Keys.  I've googled so many combinations of key words to see if anything came up but nothing had.  Good job.  Hopefully I can track it down to watch.  Thanks!

I want that piano.

In the cartoon, the piano refuses to co-operate during a concert. Do you still want it??

I had a recording of 'Sparky' when I was a kid.  I didn't even realize there was a cartoon as well.  I'll have to try to find a copy of it.

I loved this recording!  I even remember trying to see if my piano could do it.  I guess that these days you can just buy a Yamaha Synclavier.  It wouldn't be quite the same without the piano talking to you though.

It'll be nice to watch again.  I ordered it through Amazon and it should be here any day now.

I've been thinking and came to the conclusion that this cartoon may be one of the main reasons why I started playing the piano as a kid.  I don't think I had other "piano" influences.
