Preliminary Repertoire for May 2005-May 2006....
on: April 27, 2005, 02:00:11 AM
I'm planning to get back into piano for the next school year and have decided upon 15 pieces I plan to play. I've played for about three years already, but for the past year, I have had no piano teacher whatsoever as the only one in the area could not teach for that year. Now that teacher has been unreliable so I don't plan to continue with her even if she decides to teach next year. I've found another one, although it will be a bit out of my way.
The following are the pieces I plan to learn:
Scarlatti Sonata K32
Bach Invention 1
Haydn Sonata XVI/08 in G major
Haydn Sonata XVI/09 in F major
Beethoven 6 Eccosaisses
Scrabin Prelude Op. 11 no. 15
Bach Giga from Partita 1
Scarlatti K 54
Mozart Fantasia in C minor K475
Debussy Arabesque 1
Scarlatti K69
Beethoven Sonata 3 Opus 79
Brahms Intermezzo in E, Op 116/6
Mendelssohn Songs Without Words Op. 53 no. 3
Chopin Fantasy Impromptu
I've grouped them in terms of difficulty. I plan to learn all the pieces in a group before I go on to the next group. Is this list good progressively? Does it have a good variety?
Am I in over my head or can I go further by either adding more pieces or putting harder pieces? Is this possible to complete in one year...especially since I've had a lapse in piano practice for the past year?
The only piece I have any real worry about is Chopin's Fantasy Impromptu. I think it is the hardest of the lot, but since I will probably study that last...I don't have to worry whether I get to it or not this year. The real question is if the repertoirery I've chosen before it will prepare me for it.
What are everyone's thoughts on this?
