Lange piano
on: May 15, 2003, 11:34:39 AM
Recently I bought a piano, built in 1912 by Lange.

Curious about its history, I went to do some research on its background,
yet I could not find this manufacturer anywhere.

Is someone able to provide some information about this manufacturer
and/or piano?

I will post some pictures later.

Thanks in advance... :)

Antique?
I do not have any certificates to prove its authenticity,
but it does look like it is old ;)

I took some pictures this weekend; enjoy :D

What a beautiful looking piano! How does it sound? It certainly looks like a quality instrument.  It looks a little like a Bechstein upright inside and soft green baize is also the same colour as that used in Bechstein pianos.
Apart from searching on the internet you could email a period piano restorer and enquire if they can give any information about your Lange piano.  The name sounds German.
Your could try earlypianos.com  who specialise in restoring older pianos.
Your photos are excellent and this is the first time I have seen photos like these on this forum.  Well done!
Kind regards,
Robert.

Hi, from the pics it looks to be about a 1920's/1930's overstrung underdamper. It will need a new set of hammers within the next few years. Not antique for about 25 years yet and then its value will jump by 0%

It sounds quite horrible at the moment, as it has been stored,
and not tuned for a long time before that. :)

The piano was tuned last week, and it will be next week, to finish off.
The remark made on the hammers is absolutely right, and I am very
curious how you value this instrument! ;)

Thanks for the replies, I will try to find some more information
through a restorer.

hi, I could only value it  against the pictures in my currency and against my cost of living at around R4,000  in US$ I don't know.
