There have been a couple of attempts that I have just had to put aside.  I tell myself, "for now."

I look at the music, and I SHOULD be able to handle it.  I try to memorize some of it and just can't break through.

There's too much other music out there to waste too much time. 

Maybe you need to put this aside and select something else.   The problem with piano teachers, especially for younger players, is that this may be the next selection in a "grade" book and the teacher may not let you pass by until you complete it.
