Is this enough??
on: May 03, 2005, 08:54:56 PM
Hi,
I have been playing the piano for about two and a half years. I take lessons twice a week and each time for approximately one hour. My teacher teaches at the conservatory as well (but unfortunately i am not enrolled there)...

I just wanna know whether this is enough, keeping in mind that my goal is to become a respected classical pianist.

Thanks

It depends on so many things... how many hours you have lessons in a week is only one of very many factors... but 2 hours a week is more than enough if everything else is good.
If the teacher can give you lots to think about then you can "live" on his words more than half a week...

How old are you? And you should go to conservatory if you want to become a respected classical pianist. If you can't get to conservatory same with 2 lessons by week, I doubt you would be able to make it as a succesfull career. But if you can go to conservatory then I think you could do it as a classical pianist. A respected one is another story, and for you, what IS a "respected" classical pianist. If you want to be as respected as Hamelin I think you dream to much  :) lol Anyway get to conservatory in the first place then you can judge by yourself.

Well, i try my best to give the piano as much time as i can...(as i am currently study Computer Engineering as well), and don't tell me it is impossible to combine these two independent studies as you can see an example as Robert Finley, the great pianist and Electronics Engineer.

Concerning joining a conseravtory, of course i hope to do so but i am 19 years old now and i have been playing for about two and a half years, i don't know if they'r gonna accept me or not....

N.B: I am currently preparing to enter ABRSM grade 5 exam next month although i think it is toooooo easy for me....

It is enough.
And if you really want it, you CAN do it, even if you had lessons only twice a month
 :)
The piano has you.
