performing on cruise ships
on: May 06, 2005, 05:42:40 PM
just got a letter from a good friend that mentioned a pianist (article from the ny times - habitats section may1, 2005) katya grineva.  she is a russian born pianist living in manhattan.  she just signed a contract for yearly performance at carnegie hall (at 34 years).  she will be performing may 12th.

perhaps i should have put her pic on the 'piano babes' section because she is really good looking too.  anyway, she performs so much (cruise liners, and concert halls around the world) that her apartment was rarely lived in.  so, some of her friends redecorated for her.

"ms. grineva is known for her liquid, dreamlike renditions of romantic classics by composers like chopin, schubert, liszt.  she's been playing since she was 5, when her moscow neighbors took her along to a music school audition with their own children and she was accepted too.

for more:  look up the ny times 'habitats' section (may 1, 2005) there's a job out there for all of us on cruise ships!
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

I have a friend who played trumpet on a cruise line for a good while. They paid pretty well also.

The only reason I decided not to play on cruise ships (I had the opportunity to do so) was because when you came back after your contract period, you really didn't have anything (job wise) and had to start all over looking for something else.  It's hard when you are on the water all the time and come back to "civilization".
