Here are some compositions of mine i just recorded. These two are way too hard for me to play up to tempo so i'm playing them 80% tempo and making many mistakes as I go along

Disregard the mistakes - i'd appreciate feedback

Also - a simple valse i wrote for my X girfriend so it would be easy for her to play...

Hi Noam,

How did you compose these? Do you use stop-start improvisation, allow your ideas to coalesce over time via improvisation, or do you use a program like Finale? No matter what method you used, they're very nice!  You are clearly gaining a solid intuition for traditional harmonic and melodic structure. My only reccommendation would be to introduce more variety into your playing, more dynamics, etc.

Overall I am very impressed! Keep up the good work!

I just listened to the waltz after I posted, I think this is my favorite of the three!

that's a hard question how i compose these...
I usually go some 10 bars in my head and get it going. if it sounds good i write it down on a music processor because i hate writing out the notes by hand because i'm such a messy writer....
I know my compositions are no chopin. I'm a big fan of chord progressions so i don't really care too much for new patterns and invensions...
I love it when i change key without the listener noticing. Nice things happen at those time melodically.
I have zero piano theory or any education but I an inspired to write the music by what's happening in my life....

Thats really awesome. In terms of musical creation, I have no training either. I recently got a teacher for technique/reading/repertoire, though, which has been very beneficial I think.

If I may express my opinion...

You have a talent, without doubt, but you need a guide.
It sounds like all of your compositions are aimed for singing and not for classical piano playing. I'm sure you listened to chopin ballades... Try to suck some ideas from the way they are composed, don't use only melody accompanied by some broken chordes.
I don't know how old you are, but if you have an option to do that- learn composition for real!
With lots of respect,
Tom.

I agree with everything that's been said. I have never composed anything, but I congradulate you on your efforts.  I will say this - I took one listen to your impromptu this morning as I was preparing for work, it was really "background" - and now several hours later, the melodic idea is still running through my head.. That is the sign of a good idea if you ask me. Keep developing it!

great job :)

thanks for your replies. I agree with what you say about chopin. I use to love him so much as a child. I'm 23 now. I'm not that fond of chopin anymore and not trying to impersonate him or any other composer.
I'll try to venture off to different styles though in my writings. I think that would be a good idea and thanks for that.
Here is the bulk of the one's i have recorded so far if you misse out on some of them...

Well, I didn't mean chopin as the style you should write, he just makes a good example of different ways to write, using many options of the man, the hands and the piano (what I mean here is that you can use all the options the piano gives you, which are much more than only melody accompanied by broken chordes.).
