hey guys...this is my first post.. and i am already whining....lol...no, its just a suggestion...

i was thinking...in modifying your account, at the top it said somthing about "photo" but there is no place to upload a small icon...

the color's of this site are dark, which is cool =) i was thinking that it would be easier to differentiate the posts from one an other if people could upload icons...plus they are fun...and, ya=)

and maybe i am just totally computer illiterate..and someone needs to tell me where to upload it....lol

Sure, I am for it too as long as people actually post pictures as opposed to anime figures and such...

What kind of photo gallery does 10Finger mean?  An external web page?  What scarletnocturne means, I think, is an avatar icon that appears below the name in posts.

To implement this system would be difficult to some degree.  First of all, this forum's engine is hard-coded from a third-party.  It is a CGI web app, which means there's a 99.9% chance that it was written in Perl.  Perl programmers is a rare breed now-a-days, since there are many easier languages that are interpreted much faster.  The code would have to be modified, the DB architecture modified/recreated (depending on the database system), etc...

Perhaps, Piano Forum should convert to a PHP-based forum...(hint hint :P).

PianoForum could have some space allocated where members could upload images.  Many free servers that one would want to upload images to does not allow remote linking.

actually it appears to be a mix of javascript and html (goto view source if XP).  you dont have to have php to upload images. I dont know anything about php but i do know that the server could upload small images using any language.

allchopin>  Actually, when viewing the source, you never see the actual source code.  You only see the code that the master code outputs.  You can't see the Perl code for security reasons.  One could reek havoc if they found out the source code for this forum, or any other forum.  In fact, if Windows' source code was released, there would be a national emergency, according to the Government of the USA.

JavaScript does not power this board.  It is definately Perl.

And for uploading the pics, yes, PHP is not necessary, but can easily facilitate the process (as can Perl, but is harder to program).

I think being able to post pictures is a neat idea. And yes, would make it far more personal. I really enjoyed seeing the photo of "Ed and Noah meet God"....I would have never thought that was them. It's funny...you read the same persons posts over and over, and build up a mental picture of them in your head...and then their nothing like what you think they would look like. It's always nice to put a face with a name.....I'd be curious as to what Berhard looks like.....probably nothing like I have pictured!! ;)

Now it's "Guess what Bernhard looks like" instead of "Guess Bernhards age". ;D

I imagine Bernhard to look like an aged Franz Liszt without those huge moles and long hair. ;)

I admit, it would be nice to see the picture of the person I am communicating with, but...this is the internet and I don't want my face out there for anyone to access.  If someone I know in person recognizes it, they may use it against me...
