Derek, op32 no10 is indeed the one I voted for.  However, I think all of them are gems.... someday I wish to play them all.

prelude in g minor op. 23 No. 5 is actually a surprisingly demanding prelude.  THe jumps make it somewhat hard to make dynamic contrast, but it's doable.  My props go out to all those (like me) who have found the joy in this prelude.

My favourites are Op. 32 No. 2 and Op. 32 No. 4.  But then again I like most of them.

I'm going to go with Op. 32 no. 2 and 4 as well.
But to widen the field somewhat - if I had to indicate my own preference as to which *set* I preferred, it would most assuredly be op. 32, because of the integration of thematic material across the opus (dotted triple rhythm, dies irae motifs, etc).

op. 32 no. 4, I am aware, is formally flawed (the opening section carries its halting nature perhaps a tad too far for my tastes), but who can beat the daemonic acceleration as the thing rushes to its conclusion..! :o

I voted 32/2, though it pretty much ties with 32/10 (and 23/2 is not bad either!).  If only we could vote for more than one  :(

I have! It is an amazing piece, and it is my favorite of the Preludes, but I like of all of them greatly. I play it all the time, it can be demanding… Just by playing it you can imagine what Rachmaninoff might have thought of or seen in Russia… Revolution, war, soldiers… It is a great piece.  ;)

Sincerely,
Mario Barbosa.

i voted for opus 23 no.7 . but thats  cuz i couldnt vote for more than one. i just chose one amongst my favourites randomly.  but along with opus 23 no.7 , my other favourite rach preludes would be opus 23 no.4, opus 32 no.10 ,  and well i also like opus 23 no.2, 5 and 10 (i just started liking this last one recently, its awesome, specially the ending). opus 32 no.5 and   opus 3 no.2.
