Trivia Round #1 - Subject: Russia
on: May 30, 2003, 02:24:27 AM
I really liked the idea of the trivia quiz, so I have my own few questions... By the way, I am NOT Russian.
We'll start with an easy round:

1. Name "The Mighty Five"

2. Balakirev appended a subtitle to his work "Islamey". What is it?

3. Which Opera by Glinka did Balakirev have memories from?

4. What is the name of Glinka's song cycle containing "The Lark"?

5. Name Tchaikovsky's patroness, and her nationality.

Please don't reply with answers, msg them to me, so that other people don't take them from you.

Amit

Just curious, what were the answers to questions 3 and 4, and the last part of 5?  They really stumped me.

I know what to ask!

Who has recently won the Martha Argerich International Piano Competition in Buenos Aires?

How old is he?

What's his nationality?

Who's his teacher?

Which music school does he attend?

I obviously can't read. When you said political position held by Paderewski, I read political "posture," and the only thing I could think of was Polish independence.

Also, not to nit-pick, but I believe Dreyschock was Bohemian, and not Russian. He taught at St. Petersburg Conservatory - if I have the name right - but left Russia because the weather did not agree with him.

Thanks for the quiz. Good questions.

Well, I still couldn't think of his name while doing  the quiz, and had to look it up.
