Samick Troubles
on: May 16, 2005, 12:55:18 PM
I'm writing this to inform and warn you all about Samick Piano, and any pianos made by them whose warranties they may cover.  4 years ago, I bought a small Samick grand piano.  It had many problems right from the start.  The store kept sending out their tech to service things ... squeaky pedals, sticking dampers, buzzing notes.  Each thing seemed minor in and of itself.  When the stores tuner moved out of state, I found a new tuner.

The new tuner informed me that in addition to all of these recurring problems, the pins were getting exteremely loose.  He recommeded contacting Samick and exercising the "warranty".

I contacted Samick and they agreed that the pins were too loose and the piano should be taken to the facility in california for evaluation.  My request, as per my tuners recommendation, was to have the pin block and all of the damper mechanisms (which squeaked/stuck constantly) replaced.

Samick had the piano for 6 months.  When it came back, the pin block was not replaced.  The pounded larger pins in, which were still loose in some locations, and so tight in some places that it looked like my tuner was going to blow an artery.  They did nothing to correct the damper mechanisms.

I wrote Samick another letter, informing them of how dissatisfied I was with the piano.  They ignored me.  Two more letters, ignored.  Regisetered mail, ignored.  BBB, ignored.  Attorney General, ignored.

So, I know the Samick is not a great piano to begin with.  Fine, I will be buying a new piano soon anyway.  I am posting this simply as an informative post as to how Samick Customer Service handles issues.  BTW, the piano is still under "warranty" lol.

cheers

Yoda sorry to hear of your troubles. I would recommend calling the president of the Samick Music Corporation in Californina as well. Also address your letters directly to him.

Despite that Samick branded pianos are their lowest tierred product, I have not heard negative things about them. Think you may have just gotten a lemon. I would wonder too the environmental humidity the piano was kept in?. Although I am a relative novice, it is my understanding that loose pins can be caused by harsh humidty. Also that the first fix would be to try larger pins before replacing the pinblocks.

In any event, I would continue to pursue the matter.

Good luck to you.
