Pieces at the same level as Moonlight Sonata

Hello All,
I can play Moonlight Sonata. I know this is a grade 5 piece. Can I assume that I can  play most any grade 5 piece because I can play this one?

The Moonlight is a superb piece that people find really impressive (people who are not as familiar w/ classical music as the PF community ) and I found it rather easy because of the repetitive nature it has.

Also, what are some other pieces at or below Grade 5 that are beautiful and impressive sounding pieces that I can quickly add to my repertory?

The ENTIRE sonata is grade 5?

I think he means the 1st movement since it's very obvious..


Try these classics:

- Beethoven - Fur Elise
- Schumann - Traumerei
- Erik Satie - Gymnopedies/Gnossienes

ow and i find the moonlight sonata still impressive if well played. sure the notes are cake but i see lot of people fail on several aspects of the piece.. But keep repeating it, it is sure a good addition to ur '-repertoire-'

The ENTIRE sonata is grade 5?

In the States, our grading system is different.

No the first part is often considered grade 5. Most people don't even know there is a second and third movement.

The last movement is grade Impossible

I only play the first movement as Chrysalis had pointed out.

Chrysalis-Traumerei is at that level?    It is very beautiful-I will definitely get the sheet music for that.

Not necessarily. You may have a knack for certain styles of music and not for another. For instance I can play a Prelude with ease and yet I have trouble with Minuets that are graded much lower.

Also, Moonlight has been grated anywhere from level 3 to 7 depending on if you take account the musicality of the piece as few people play it properly.

It does give you a range to shoot for however when picking music to learn.

There are several threads about music selections already you can loook up.

There is also a very good Excel file available that someone made on this forum. I will email it to you.

One more thing. Grades are extremely subjective and should not be taken to seriously. No different then someone posting a top one hundred list. Lots of room for debate.

Ron-I had an internet outage.....that is probably why you received the message when you tried to send the spreadsheet. I did receive it last night somehow.
