I'm addicted to this piece
on: May 27, 2005, 02:13:50 PM
I've been listening to Chopin's Berceuse in D Flat Major Op. 5 over the last few days and I must have played it (the CD) ten times, it's so beautiful. I'd love to be able to play this well, one day. I might have a word with my teacher and see if he thinks I'm up to it.

What a piece. I get goose bumps listening to it.

Mark.

personally i dislike it.

but i suggest you definetly learn it if you like it.  Rubinstein has a good recording of it.

I played this piece years ago, although I must say now I don't like it anymore, sorry! If you're going to play it be careful to get the 2 in a bar really clear from the start otherwise it can just get mushy later on with all the RH detail, good luck  :)

well i'm playing it and i love it so much! yeah i'm addicted to it too, i went through a very short phase where i wasn't fond of it, that may have had something to do with the fact that i was sucking at it, but moving on from that i love playing it. the main issue i had with it was playing the right notes in the right timing in the urtext edition it's the top of the 3rd page where the right hand has the large jumps in triplets, but once you memorise the notes it's pretty easy. and getting it note perfect in the last speedy RH section and up to speed. but it wasn't too difficult if you just practice a lot using repetition in the faster RH bits, and the chords sound so nice! love it to bits, almost as good as the barcarolle

You should definitely play it if you luv the piece  :)

I think it's beautiful, but anyway.. Murray Perahia has a good recording of it if I'm not wrong  :)

Good luck!

I fell under the spell of the piece myself ,about a year ago. I played it over and over on my CD player. I also loved the fact that the left hand was really easy and was ostinato through the whole piece, because my right hand is more advanced than my left. I learned it, and I recently auditioned with it for a student honors recital at the Renaissance Center where I take piano lessons. I got back a critique sheet that was filled with things I did wrong or could have done better. Needless to say, I didn't make the recital. Be sure to pay very close attention to all the dynamic changes and articulation marks in the music, and don't just try to play it like you hear in the recording. That was my mistake. I did sit down and fix everything afterward, however, and did it at my teacher's student recital recently. Good luck with it, though :). It's really fun to play after you get it down.
