Need some opinions
on: May 31, 2005, 03:30:58 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm a 26 year old student from Germany, Munich.
I have some problems concerning my love towards the piano and classical music :)
I began playing piano at the age of 10. I played chopin heroic etc... after 3-4 years. I made some 2nd and 3rd places at national youth competitions. at the age of 16 I had 2 pianoteachers, 1 pianist from prague and a Teacher from RSK (Richard Strauss Conservatory Munich). The last wanted me to apply for the RSK as a student doing school while studying...
2-3 months later I broke one of my fingers at soccer. The situation wasn't that bad, cause my parents were more motivated than me, and I began to lose fun playing the piano. So I told them, I'm going to quit the whole thing. I quit the piano at the age of 18;
winter 2003 I started again, cause my girlfriend told me that it would be a waste to throw my talent senseless away...
I realized that I lost my appointment, which was the biggest part of my life for a long time. I began practising Liszt etudes trans. Learned them quit fast and made awesome progresses concerning my technique.  I moved last year to cologne where I began to study economical engineering. My piano was at home so I could only play5-10 days a month. HORROR!!! the5-10, I was playing up to 12-14 hours a day when I had time to.
My dad had the mercy to buy me a CLP 130 which made me to one of the luckiest man on earth :) This is 4 weeks ago...
I started learning Mephisto Waltz #1 (3 weeks ago) and op10 #2 (5 days ago).
I finished the Liszt yesterday, at suggested speed - if I'm concentrated enough no mistakes, . I practised up to 10hs a day and I did sightreading. I memorized the piece after 5 days.
I'm playing the Chopin at the moment @120 without errors and absolute clearly chrom. scales. I analyzied technics by watching videos and many concerts - adapted many of them also for the liszt.
I am to old for studying piano at conservatory! (max 25)
What should I do?
Am I generally to old for this job?
Should I accept the fact that this is my hobby and not more cause I'm not the youngest and I'll have my diploma in 1 1/2 years?
I'll try to record the pieces, when I get the equip. to do this...

Thx for your time and sry for the english.
Carl

That's good advice to someone who is asking a serious question... ::) :P

In response to the question I would say that it is never too late. By the sounds of it you are very good and still at the age of 26 have every chance of making a career out of it. Have you got a teacher at the moment? If you haven't then it might be an idea to go and play to some, arrange some consultation lessons and then at the same time you can discuss your options.
