good songs for practicing speed
on: June 13, 2003, 04:06:48 PM
HI!  ;) I've played the piano for about 7years and I love it. But often i am angry about my fingers which are not so fast as I want them to be. Normally I play every day some Czerny Exercises before I start the normal practicing. Could you suggest me some good ones?

My teacher says "the important thing is anticipation, you don't have only to read before you play de notes, you have to read the notes, move your hand anticipating, and then play the notes". That makes you gain speed, after having trained a lot. (it is supposed to haha).

I do Hanon to gain speed anticipating and stuff, and i don't know if i do right but i think it helps ;D

excuse my bad english  ::)

no one here plays any songs, we only play piano pieces.

the faster you want to play, you should play them more lighter, more "on top of the keys" instead of playing deep.  If your technique is pretty solid, speed is only a matter of practicing slow and gradually getting faster.

Yes, I was going to say, if a singer wants to be able to articulate properly in songs at fast tempo, the best way is to do standard vocalizing before practicing that song.
Interpreting music means exploring the promise of the potential of possibilities.

 Unlike the previous posters I will not provide alternative methods to pieces. BACH BACH BACH is the only solution. Try learning Inventions or Fugues, and then bringing it hands separate to a speed of around 3-4 quads per second, which is equivalent to between Triplet 16th - 32nd notes on M.M. 120 or just simply anywhere between double and triple the normal speed. This is quite easy by itself, but what will increase the difficulty exponentially is maintaining the same quality of tone and articulation as at the normal speed. Then bring it to about double the normal HT which is extremely difficult. Good luck :)
If I miss a day of practice, I notice it
  If I miss two days, my wife notices it
  If I miss five days the public notices it
