BACH, Johann Sebastien: Intrata (from the Fifth Violoncello Suite in G minor)

This one is how a classical Filipino Composition looks like...BTW, I'm from the Philippines...

BUENCAMINO, Francisco: "Hibik ng Diwa" ("My Soul's Lament")

(BTW, I thank e60m5/Paul Wee for helping me upload this file.)

Sorry but the sound quality in all these are VERY POOR.  But it's still at least musical.

Jonathan:

Thank you for sharing your Filipino music.

The music of the Philippines, it seems to me, is characterised by intense emotion, usually sadness or yearning, plenty of minor harmonies and often a clearly Spanish influence. My wife is from Dagupan and I have developed a fondness for the music, particularly the love songs (the Pangasinan love song is very attractive - possibly because my wife used to sing it for me !) . Much of my own piano music has been inspired by the Philippines (my impression of the Hundred Islands is on page 2 of this audition room)

What sort of music is being written by contemporary Filipino composers ?

So you are married to a Filipino?  What's your nationality?  Where do you live now?  Anyway, it's true that Filipino compositions have this "Spanish airs;" for all you know, we have been colonized by the Spaniards for almost 400 years!

That Filipino piece I posted above is derived from the form of a kind of Philippine folk song called "kundiman" - which is actually a "serenade."  Notice that it's in A-B-A-C-A form primarily having 3 themes.  The main theme (A) is always in minor which usually expresses, as you said, sadness, yearning, and longing.  The sub-theme (B), on the other hand, is a short episode expressing a brief and sudden relief, so temporary that an immediate transition back to the main theme is fostered.  This repeated main theme, originally in minor, ends this time in MAJOR to pave for the closing theme (C) which is actually the climax, expressing an inevitable heartfelt happiness!  (Notice how the rhythm changes to doppio movimento.)  Last is simple a recapitulation of the main theme with a coda to end.

I will post more Filipino works soon..

Would you know where I can download Filipino sheet music? A Pinoy friend of mine in the US is looking for some. The ones in National Bookstore aren't very well arranged.

Hi-
Enjoyed your tango, but where did you get the " out of tune " keyboard?
