Piano and viola music
on: June 18, 2003, 05:57:10 PM
Hey everybody.

I am now in the process of playing chamber music with a violist friend. We're learning Brahms sonata in F m, op. 120, as well as Bruch Romance op. 85 and Bloch Hebraic Suite.

Any recommandations for the viola and piano repertoire ? Which pieces are worth playing ? And what do you thing of transcriptions (the repertoire being limited, how about getting clarinet & piano, or violin & piano, playing the clarinet or violin part with the viola, and that kind of stuff) ?

Schumann's Fairy Tales op. 113 is good stuff. You can play the J.S. Bach sonatas for harpsichord and viola da gamba.  I never heard any arguments against the transcriptions of the clarinet stuff, etc. so no complex with it.
"Soli Deo Gloria".
