Help: Malfunction of a key
on: June 14, 2005, 06:48:15 PM
Since a few days ago one hammer of my upright is not returning to the hammer rail for itself, but remains at a half of the way. So when the associated key is depressed, the resulting sound is weak. Is there something that I can fix for myself, or it's a work for a technician? I live in a remote area and it's not easy to take a technician there. Thanks a lot in advance for any advisory.

I had that happen some months ago.  A pin in the key mechanism was binding.

The key would play, but then the hammer would just slowly creep back into position.  Thus, you couldn't repeat.  But if you would wait about 10 seconds, then you could play that note again.

The technician came out to the house, punched out the binding pin, and pressed in a new pin.   It was not very expensive-- he was only there about 20 minutes.

Apparently this is not too uncommon.  Good luck with it --
