Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky
Three Pieces
Op. 9
About Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky's Three Pieces
These three pieces were written in 1870 and published the following year by Jurgenson, who had been encouraged by Nikolai Rubinstein – Tchaikovsky’s mentor and friend, and a virtuoso pianist like his older brother Anton – to establish a music publishing business in Moscow. Rubinstein performed the Rêverie and Mazurka at a concert with Tchaikovsky's music organized by the Russian Music Society, an event attended by many important people, such as the famous writer Ivan Turgenev.
