Sergey Prokofiev
Six Pieces from Cinderella
Op. 102
About Sergey Prokofiev's Six Pieces from Cinderella
Prokofiev’s ballet Cinderella was composed in 1940-1944 and provided a rich source of material from which he drew numerous arrangements: for solo piano (Three Pieces Op. 95, Ten Pieces Op. 97, and Six Pieces Op. 102), orchestra, and solo instruments with piano.
The Six Pieces from Cinderella Op. 102 were composed and published in 1944, before the ballet´s premiere. Longer numbers feature here, focusing on an array of pensive and brooding moods, with a departure into wild, biting rhythmic drive in “Quarrel”.
