Ten Pieces from Cinderella
Op. 97
About Sergey Prokofiev's Ten Pieces from Cinderella
Prokofiev’s ballet Cinderella was composed in 1940-1944 and provided a rich source of material from which he drew numerous arrangements: for solo piano (Three Pieces Op. 95, Ten Pieces Op. 97, and Six Pieces Op. 102), orchestra, and solo instruments with piano.
The Ten Pieces from Cinderella Op. 97 were composed in 1943 and published in 1944, before the ballet´s premiere. This collection focuses mainly on shorter pieces from the ballet, highlighting the composer’s skill in creating a diverse set of characters and moods, here with an atmosphere of childlike innocence, playfulness, and fairytale enchantment.
