I dont think they 1) recognised the comperoser's name because of the stupid show host 2) thus thought it was 20th century... or self composed... or maybe they thought it was an impromptu improvisation... or maybe they just didnt think anything at all... they could be deaf. Or just very very stupid.

You know, earlier today (20 mins ago) I was having a crying emotional angry fit at how crap I play(ed) and how the the people I trust most just couldn't be honest with me... and listening to this has 1) made me feel one hell of a lot better about myself and 2) confirmed for me my theories and opinions about people and their fake truthless ways.

She has the velocity to play the piece very very slightly over standard tempo, the fingers to miss about half the notes, tone production that rivals that of the finest sledgehammers, and the great artistic vision to cut more than half the piece (undoubtedly because it has a lot of repeats, and that'd be boring).

excuse me if i have misread or not understood anything, but i swear she is just a model right? if so, even though it was a crappy performance, you gotta give her credit for being a model and playing the piano. i mean, what can most other models do, eh?

and about the audience, you will find that in the world of Pop music and fashionable people, their audiences would clap for anything. half these people in the Pop industry put on terrible live performances, yet their fans just yell out because they are like idols to the fans.

It's not that shocking that she won that award, think about it, she's beautiful and she obviously has more intelligence than most beauty pageanters because she know 7 lteer anmes: A-B-C-D-E-F-G.  And that's pretty darn good when you think about it.

She was quite cleaver to play piece that a beauty pageant audience and judges would not know.  She could butcher it playing loudly with hands flying everywhere and still look good, which is the point to a beauty pageant. 

I'm sure she also works with children, volunteers at a hospital, is taking quatum physics in university, as well as being a piano virtuoso.

You forgot to mention that it needs to also be said with great hautiness, disdain for all that is not french, and perhaps, most importantly it needs to come out mostly through the nose.

Seriously though, the announcer WAS from Texas.  We all know how poorly some people (ahem, cough ****bush**** cough) from Texas speak in public.

Actually, I think I might adopt the announcers pronunciation among my friends and see if I can start a fad.  "Ah, yes, this evening I will performing the Shhhhherzhhhhoo numero dos from Shopping.  Prepare yourselves to be amaze - zed."  (Trust me, that sounds hilarious in my head)

Back to being serious though, that performance was painful.

I think so, it sounded like a guitar at first.

She bit off more than she could chew in this instance. I think she suffers from terrible nerves and this is not a piece for someone who frightens easily. Her fingers work, just not together and there are moments of good phrasing. I think she should have gone for the Minute or c # minor waltzes of Chopin, this piece was beyond her at this point in her playing. I wonder if the cuts were intentional or if she just wanted to get the hell off the stage. At any rate she is not a hopeless case, but someone better coach and prepare this aspect of her "beauty" more carefully next time.

Ok so there were moments where she showed hints of musicality, but um....

Maybe it's nerves.  She certainly did a précis on that piece.  There probably were planned cuts in the piece, but they didn't turn out as planned.  On the bright side, at least she didn't get stuck and moved on to the next section, and the next....  She knew exactly what she had to play next. 

Well to play this particular ahem ... SHER-zo in around 2:10 is what some would call legendary speed.  ........ Da Elizondo

Interestingly enough, I pronounced Scherzo "share-zo" before I'd ever heard anyone else say it. Just like when I pronounced Sibelius as "Cyb-leus." I'm willing to bet that the announcer was reading cold off of a cue card. How else could he have kept a straight face while saying "music is the universal language and Show-pan was the greatest writer of that language."

The sad thing is I could probably play that better with 2 fingers, while being completely plastered from drinking too much whiskey, playing with my 2 fingers behind my back...
