Does anyone have any nice Rare romantic pieces - Any grade. I have about 22,000 classical pieces but i want something thats not played very often.

A man after my own heart, but this is a massive subject and a bit difficult to know where to start.

Much of Thalberg has yet to be recorded, but you will need to have a pretty top notch mechanism for some of it. Some solo works by Herz, Henselt, Kalkbrenner, Pixis, Leybach etc..... are worth looking at.

If you have not done so, it is worth trawling through John Kerseys site https://henseltlibrary.org/ . He has recorded many completely forgotten pieces and has a reasonable amont of pdf's.

For complete obscurity, check out my Hay on Wye Pilgramage thread on pianophilia.

However, to reach some jewels you have to search through a bit of mud, but it can be fun.

Cant wait till i ever catch up to you!!!!!! how long have you been collecting 4? ive heard that rumor in another post that pdfs corrupt after a length of time!!! any truth in that?? i hope not!!!!

Thalberg's Nocturne, Op.21 No.3 is close to exquisite.

I would be inclined to work your way through a few of the Op70 before attempting any of the large scale works.

Even if you are already have a solid technique, it gives you an insight into his style.

All of the old expensive Marco Polo issues, have now been released under Naxos at a fraction of the price. These should still be available on Amazon etc.

The best recording of Thalberg I have ever heard was Earl Wild playing the Thalberg/Rossini Semiramide, closely followed by Nicolosi's Thalberg/Bellini Sonnambula. Both can keep the singing line going whilst the arpegg shower was in progress.

Argh...seriously. I have tons of sheet music here on my computer and from 90% of it I don't have a clue how it sounds like. There are really rare, beautiful pieces there, waiting for me to be played and I don't even know it... it makes me sad
