A man after my own heart, but this is a massive subject and a bit difficult to know where to start. However, to reach some jewels you have to search through a bit of mud, but it can be fun.
It is indeed a massive topic. Here are a few quick suggestions from my personal favourites, with imslp links:It could also be well worth your while to investigate some of the Bortkiewicz that rachfan has posted in the audition room.
I hope not!!!!
Much of Thalberg has yet to be recorded, but you will need to have a pretty top notch mechanism for some of it. Some solo works by Herz, Henselt, Kalkbrenner, Pixis, Leybach etc..... are worth looking at.
what would you suggest as a piece to start with from thalberg?Zac
close to exquisite.
that's an amazing piece, thankyou.is there any other thalberg pieces you could suggest?Zac
Argh...seriously. I have tons of sheet music here on my computer and from 90% of it I don't have a clue how it sounds like. There are really rare, beautiful pieces there, waiting for me to be played and I don't even know it... it makes me sad
