Beefsteaks of piano
on: January 07, 2005, 02:57:04 AM
Doggone.  I hate to do this being a newby and all, but shoot, the interest was obviosuly there, and no one else seemed willing to step to the plate.  So, here goes:  Eugeny Kissin for Mr. January.

No offense Athykay, but do you seriously think he is hot?  Maybe this is just a bad pic of him or something.

In all fairness, that was probably not one of Evgeny's more photogenic moments. :-\

PS to Janice:  Yes, it was a bit of a joke.  Someone had mentioned Brendel so why not him?  I figure the thread can only get better  from here, right?

Kissin, bless him, is such a dork.  Now this fellow, while not so famous as a pianist, has got Evgeny beat in the looks department, IMHO:

This is Francois-Frederic Guy (who I got from xvimbi's list in the "Babes" thread).

Expert that I am with PhotoShop, Ms. Athykay, I don't think even I could PhotoShop that picture of Mr. Kissin into anything approaching "babe" status.  I've heard often that women place a lower value on a man's appearance.  Now I believe it.  (Are your sure you got your contacts in the right eyes?)  "Screech" is just about right.  ;)

This would be a better start:

Sorry guys, but I haven't seen anything approaching "beefcake" yet.  All I see is a bunch of piano nerds.  Sorry to offend if any of these guys are YOU, in which case I say be thankful you are smart and hard working, and give up the notion of doing calendars for girls.

I'll say it again. You girls need to get out more.  This is pathetic.

I said "oooooo" to that guy because he was the most sophisticated (and older!) looking one of the bunch.  And yes, I find him quite attractive because I dig older men! (actually, older than HIM).  Sombody like Yanni or Richard Clyderman totally turns me off.

oooooh, my favorite activity.  Now for some reason I couldn't get this to paste here but here's the link.  He's not bad lookin' if I do say so myself. (It takes a couple seconds to load.)

https://www.newmusicbox.org/page.nmbx?id=54hf03

And here's a couple more for your viewing pleasure, though slightly more objectionable perhaps.

So there.  Hot guys most certainly DO play piano.  Maybe I should consider getting into new music as that seems to be where all the hot guys are.  Interesting.

OMG I can't believe someone put Stephane Lemelin on the beefstakes list!! I laughed so hard.  I've actually worked with him.  He's wonderful, really, but ...aaaah! Not in that way.

Good work Earthward.  I know one of those guys (not the of the three you posted (hmmmm? Maybe you?), but on the long list).  I couldn't quite figure that site out.  It's for new music, but how did they compile the list of pianist/commentators?

Hey Stephane ain't bad either.  I'm listening to one of his Faure nocturnes as I type - very dreamy - love those pieces.

Bleh.  I'm still not finding anyone on here that I would consider a "beefsteak."  Some certainly aren't bad, but certainly aren't "beefsteaks" either.

Awadagin Pratt

I've heard him twice. The first time in the Beethoven 4th and the second time in the Bach Brandenburg #5 (playing piano not harpsichord).

He is a very interesting pianist, almost eccentric. He was dressed each time in slacks and a very colorful shirt. He sits so low at the piano, he's almost on the floor. (Don't ask me how he can even play in that position.)

I didn't like his Beethoven particularly. It's one of my favorite concertos and I had the great good fortune to hear it in concert many years ago with Serkin and the Philadelphia Orchestra. So in all fairness, I must admit all performances I've ever heard (both live and on CD) pale in comparison to that.

His Bach was extraordinary. The articulation was unbelievable. His playing reminded me of Gould's. To be honest, I was a little apprehensive about the Brandeburg being played on a modern Steinway, however, it was an unqualified success.

Just curious, what is he performing at Bates?

The blurb in the paper didn't give specifics - just Bach, Beethoven, Rach and one other - I believe Chopin.  We'll  see and I'll definitely report back.
