Nils, I just had an AWFUL time trying to get logged into the forum!!  I could not, so I tried to go to the chatroom to ask if anyone had any advice (I saved the shortcut to the chatroom in my browser).  I can't remember what I did to finally get logged in (I even opened another account "Janice_2" but something went wrong, I guess.)  Anyway, just in case someone else gets stuck and is reading this post,  I'll tell what I think I did to actually get into PF.

Click on this--
https://www.pianoforum.net/smf/index.php

now log in at the very bottom of the page.  That was the only place where the log-in seemed to work.  Good luck!  (You will need it!!)

hi nils I agree with Janice I had the hardest time logging in to this website and the only thing that finally worked is doing it at the bottom of the page. The link that members need to confirm is just an application to join pianostreet. I already was a member of pianostreet before so this made everything confusing. Also nils why does the chatroom not work anymore? I logged on several times today and it was fine, now I just get a blank page after the loading numbers.

Yes, we have some problems with the set up of the new site.

The login field at the bottom is just a temporary solution. It works well to login but it is more problematic to log out. If you really need to get logged out for some reason, clear your cookies (in explorer: Tools>Internet Options) and close all browser windows.

I will work on this for sure...

For some reason when I switched over to piano street the first letter in my name is not capitalized any more. Can you please fix this? It should be Contrapunctus not contrapunctus.
And did Piano street buy piano forum or something?

Hi whoever,

Aside from the above problem(s), how does one access their e-mail account? (@pianiomail.net)  I always used the link on Piano Forums previous site.

Seems as if the new site and the switch over were not thought through very well.  You might loose a lot of participants because it looks like the new forum only wants money.  It says free, but you have to choose 'Paypal or credit card'.

i'm a bit confused does everyone need to confirm their detail (ie your account will be wiped like if you never confirmed before) or is that only for people who care for having a single account (or an account at all) for the sheet music login?

Thanks everyone for your feedback! :)

I am really sorry for the problems caused by the changes but can assure you that it is only temporarily and everything will be working perfectly fine again soon.
Also, I want you too know that the improvements of our website is only to provide a better service. You will not loose anything, just get even more features and content.

I'm DYING to go to the chatroom, because this is my hour to "put my feet up and do nothing"! Please help, Nils!!!
I hope to have the chat working again tonight!!!

And did Piano street buy piano forum or something?
Your name is fixed! (Anyone else need to change, just let me know.)
No, who could ever afford to buy Piano Forum? ;)
Piano Street is just a development of Piano Forum and as the site will include so much more content and features I decided to switch domain name.

Hi whoever,
Aside from the above problem(s), how does one access their e-mail account? (@pianiomail.net) I always used the link on Piano Forums previous site.

Michael.
An important point indead! Most of the services (including forum and chat) will always remain free so we need to make this more clear on the site.

For everones convenience it will be better to have a integrated account that keeps you logged in to the compete site instead of separating the forum and the other content.
If it had been possible I had upgraded all previous pianoforum.net members to Piano Street accounts but since your passwords are stored encrypted in the database (for your own security) there is no way to do this.
No account will ever be wiped and when we have solved the unexpected technical problem we currently have regarding this I hope the intergration will be smooth.

uhm..i dont know if im the only one..

I am sincerely sorry to hear that. :'(
If you could let me know what you feel is causing this serious degradation of the Piano Forum atmosphere I will do anything I can to restore the coziness.
Believe me, I take this very seriously.

As long as the forum stays free. :-\
Anyway, why the change?
The forum will always remain free, please don't worry!
The "change" is just development of the site to provide a better service.

Or is it just limited?

is the format of the old forum staying? Like all the symbols and stuff on teh left hand side of the coloumns? I liked that layout because I could see which posts I've answered to and what things are new... It was a little confusing...

I like the button changes on the top though, but maybe the buildlings on either side of the piano keyboard is a little intimidating :p I don't know how well it goes with the colours.... I have an idea, why not do a little contribution design thing with the top logos...Maybe like people walking on big piano keys to represent the street? hehe.... something simple but effective? Don't know.. what do you think?  ;D

I think I agree with this.  The top banner needs some tweaking still, the pictures of the buildings are probably one of the cuases for lack of "cozyness" which I too feel.  The cozyness factor probably comes from the good sense of community that PF has - sort of like a small town feel where people know each other.  Maybe this could be reflected more in the top banner pictures.

I too would like my name capitalized. Thanks.  :)

I also get a bad vibe from this place... I think it's mainly that the banner at the top is very, very out of place. I liked the nice, simple design of the old forum. I don't like the buildings at the top of the website, and I don't like the bright yellow bar underneath (I think a dark-ish mahagony would be much nicer, or at least a darker golden color.)

And the login is indeed still pesky. Thanks Janice for finding out how to get in.

Hope all of this is worth it!

I still cannot log into the pianostreet website and get acess to the forum because I was already a member of the pianostreet and pianoforum. When I tried to signup with my original name and password it said someone already has that name. This makes it extremely confusing. Nils what should I do to keep my account the same because I am a member of both. I REALLY DONT LIKE THE NAME PIANOSTREET and wish it would still stay the pianoforum.net. The title is much more catchy and cozy. It would also be better to keep it pianoforum for search engine purposes. I don't think there will be many people attracted to join this website. If people are looking to find a place to post about piano they are not going to search for that in a sheet music site that actually mentions money. Just my 2 cents..

Well, 7000 pages of high quality sheet music at your fingertips serchable through a very flexible database application is to be regarded as a considerable resource in my opinion. And we have just started...
also you said pianoforum wasn't bought but is it a joint thing with the sheet music website or is it pianoforum wich bought it? (& since i'm clueless i'd be interested in knowing who owns pianoforum is it a company or an individual?)

Everything is owned by my company.

Yes, the banner is a bit ugly but it is only temprorary thing.
The concept of Piano Street will become clearer later on and a "forum" is a part of the street, you know. (Or at least the beginning or ending of it...)
The idea about letting Tash design it is not bad at all. We'll see...

"Well, 7000 pages of high quality sheet music at your fingertips serchable through a very flexible database application is to be regarded as a considerable resource in my opinion. And we have just started..."

that's not what i meant i meant pianoforum is a world renewed forum with a huge amount of users while the sheet music website (at least i think) is not so pianoforum feels more natural (i also think it's easier to remember since it's the main attraction here & the people who would be interested in the sheet music are likely to know about the forum anyway & to find it here)

however i'm glad there is no selling out or anything of that kind but i think the transition could have been made much (much) smoother especially for people who share account name on pianoforum & the sheet music webpage from before to just delete all the accounts on the sheet music (they have no value since deletion of account only means you'll have to re-create it while on the other hand pianoforum account deletion means loosing your name/posts) & then letting people have only 1 upgrade path pianoforum>sheet music , i mean i guess when the confirmation will be working all those who picked the same username for both websites will have trouble switching? note that i retract that statement if there already were paying sheet music accounts before in wich case it makes sence not to wipe them

edit: while i don't mind the top i'm glad the old forum icons are back><

Well, the migration was very thoroughly planned by connecting the membership databases of both sites from start to make sure no duplicate accounts exists and should have been (and will be) really smooth. It is just some annoying error somewhere that give us login trouble now.
This is not the way it should work, so please be patient and use the temporary login solution until we have sorted it out.

If you (current pianoforum.net member) try to sign up at piano street and get the message that the username is already taken, it is in 99% of the cases your own pianoforum account that blocks it. Please do NOT sign up with a new username, just wait until we can confirm and activate your old account.

I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience this is causing.

I for one, can trust that things will be running smoothly in a short while and feel that a "thank you" is due to Nils for putting so much effort into this project.  I have benefitted greatly from the forum/"piano street" and its already generous resources, as do many others, and hate to see Nils feeling apologetic for things not being instantly perfect.

Thanks Nils,

So, in a sense, Piano Forum and Piano Street forums merged together.  Actually, I have already registered in the latter even before this happened and I have observed it barely has very few members and this may be the reason for all this.

OK this is weird - I had trouble logging in at first, too, then logged in at the bottom of the site as Janice suggested.  When I finished, I logged back out.

Then I spent the day doing other stuff, having logged out of the PF and closed all my browsers.

But now I come back to PF, and when I'm on the main PF page where we can see all the boards, I'm not logged in, but when I go into any board, it says at the top "Welcome, galonia!" and I'm logged in magically!  And I can post and stuff too (like this!)

I am sincerely sorry to hear that.
If you could let me know what you feel is causing this serious degradation of the Piano Forum atmosphere I will do anything I can to restore the coziness.
Believe me, I take this very seriously.

My immediate feeling was;
The name is HORRIBLE!!  And the accompanying images for me having grown up in the UK  instantly made me think of Coronation Street, but redeveloped into some soulless 90's Loft Living space ....

[Coronation Street is a very, very long running, gritty British soap; used to feature large amounts of Brown Ale, smouldering fag ends, men in vests and braces, women in hairnets and brassy blond barmaids. Apologies to all you fans, maybe it's gone upmarket since I last watched! ;D
Da -da- da- daah, dadi da di dah ... (dadidah)]

Sorry, but I think the initial impression now is cheap, cold ,commercial.

However I also want to add my thanks for all the time and effort Nils puts into this wonderful forum. :)

I can see this website as a new, bigger resource site, and pianoforum is a part (a very large and original and best part) of it all.... I think piano parade? haha, or pianoville? hehe... I get that the "forum" is suppose to be a part of the "street" and you could label sheet music as city library? haha.....ahmmmmm, no seriously though, I think over the years Nils has done a great job of establishing this community, and I hope this very helpful, friendly and insightful forum continues for many years to come :)

I don't mind the name, but maybe the Street imagery should focus more on the many people who travel on those streets rather than buildings.   ;D

Nils on a recliner with a daiquiri?

Only if the recliner is on the sidewalk!

Before the PianoStreet site, I used to be able to log in and remain logged in "forever", meaning, I could exit out to other web sites and come back and still be logged in.  But now I can't.  Is this just the way the new site works?  Or is it a new procedure I don't "get" yet?
