Harry Potter and the half blooded Prince
on: June 24, 2005, 08:18:52 PM
Hey...all Harry Potter fans - i found this: https://www.mugglenet.com/books/futurebooks/book6facts.shtml

Some gossip on the new book! I'm so excited think it's out 16th July. I want to know who Harry has a "little romance" with cos it's not Cho Chang apparently. I'm thinking Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle are gonna make Harry's life hell since he put all their dads in prison!

My favourite book used to be Azkaban (3) when i'd read each book once, but on the second reading of the Goblet of Fire i think i now prefer that. I can't wait to see how they translate Goblet of Fire into a film - because it is such a long book. I'm guessing they are gonna have to cut the Quidditch World cup chapters right down, because they are quite descriptive i.e not that much happens in terms of the plot.

I found the last book (Phoenix) quite dark, but then i guess that's cos Harry is such a moody teenager all the time (plus his parents are dead, he's seen one of his friends die and has nearly been killed 3 times by Voldemort who can blame him?)

Thoughts?

Yeah i think they changed it because they thought "philosopher" would be ambiguous/off putting to American audiences....er that's presuming they don't pick up a book to read unless the title makes it exactly clear as to what it is about....? Weird i tell ya....

lol  ;D

Well, yes, I have actually read all the books, believe it or not, or at least that interested me when it first came out a few years ago. What can I say?

Anyway, I also liked the Phoenix one the best. I read it only once, a looong time ago, so I don't really remember it, but I do seem to recall one wicked, epic wizard battle between Dumbledore and some other ultra-powerful wizard that made it all worth it.

HP+PoA is my favorite, by far. I always hated it when Harry was being tormented by the Dursleys, and he finally gets to have revenge on them by inflating Aunt Marge. Watching the protagonist being some Cinderella is boring, so seeing scenes of everyday wizarding life in Diagon Alley made the beginning few chapters more interesting. Also, having an ending that's so confusing that it takes 20-some readthroughs to completely understand how time-travel works is definitely a plus. Besides, Hermione, my favorite character, gets a more important role.

o_0 Hermione's hair is much too not-unruly in the movies. Whatever happened to 'bushy brown hair'? It let me relate to her character better because I have bushy hair. </somewhat satiring English teachers' constant "..and how can you relate to this character/plot/theme">

1 does wonder if Emma Watson will continue to act as hermione throughout the series of movies... same goes for the rest of the cast.

i agree though... she's becoming pretty foxy ;) pity i'm too old - sigh - Hope she doesn't fall onto the same path that Lindsay Lohan has gone... :(

I think they pretty much have too, or else I'd get all confused.  Maybe for the last movie, they can replace Hermione with Perta Nemcova, for s***s and giggles.

The American edition is titled Socrcer's Stone because that was the name given to the Stone by Americans...In Europe (and probably everywhere else) the books are named Philosopher's Stone because that what the Europeans called it.

I've heard that the 6th book is linked very much to the 2nd book (Chamer of Secrets).  Rowling once stated that at first she gave away too much in the second book and had to revise it... I wonder what it could be...  I know Luna Lovegood is important, Neville is definatly important ...Who do you think the Half-Blood Prince is?  I think it might be Godric Gryffondor because I don't think it's a current student at the school... and she did mention that Harry pulled out his sword when he was in the chamber.

What do you think?

Yeah that's exactly what i thought, in the first film her hair was kinda bushy but then she seems to have had it tamed from the 2nd film onwards. In the Goblet, when she is getting ready for the ball/prom she uses a hair straightening spell on her hair and shrinks her front teeth because they are supposed to stick out! Anyone remember? Emma Watson is too perfect looking! I was quite worried when my 25 year old boyfriend (now ex!) used to go on about how nice Emma/Hermione is (as she was what 14 at the time?  :o) but i now see he isn't alone  :) Harry is quite sweet! But in a little brother way!

Yeah i think i read sumwhere that the 2nd and 6th books are linked.

Godric Gryffindor was the founder of the Gryffindor house wasn't he? I thought that he must be dead by now, but then i guess Tom Riddle was a memory i.e very real to Harry and poor Ginny!

Perhaps JKR called it "half-blood" to make us think of Voldemort. Perhaps this half-blood prince is a relation of Harry's? I read on the website link i gave in my 1st post that Lily Potter beomes a very important character - and she was a muggle wasn't she? I think James Potter was the pure blood. Remember in the Phoenix when Aunt Petunia gets the howler from Dumbledore - to keep Harry at Privet Drive? And we found out that Harry was protected by his mother's love against Voldemort. Hmmm what could all this mean?

I can't quite remember the Neville/Harry details of the end of Phoenix (sum1 referesh my memory) - the prophecy was connected to Harry or Neville Longbottom - because Dumbledore said sumthin about a boy born in July....can anyone remember?

I felt really sorry for Luna Lovegoode at the end of the Phoenix (when some students have hidden all her stuff and she needs it back to start packig to go home, and Harry offers to help her), there is definitely more to her character than we know yet!

Sooooo excited.....just under 3 weeks  ::)

So who do you all think will get together in the end?

I have a feeling that it will be Harry/Hermione rather than the 'apparent' Ron/Hermione.

Ron and Hermione seem to to be the typical bickering couple, like Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, but they seem to only fit it superficially.

Harry and Hermione, though, seem to fit the best-friends-turned-lovers pattern, like Emma and Mr. Knightley from Emma also by Jane Austen, more and more each passing book.

I do think that Ron has a crush on Hermione btw, but I don't think it is reciprocated.

Am I making any sense?

I heard somewhere that it was called the sorcerer's stone, to prevent any possible links to "nostradamus", 16th c. philosopher, whose published writings are said to be predictions of events centuries later. Of course, that includes 9/11. However, that's absolute rubbish as the books came out much earlier... so that's probably more accurate.

I've heard that the 6th book is linked very much to the 2nd book (Chamer of Secrets). Rowling once stated that at first she gave away too much in the second book and had to revise it... I think when you look at the title, you get the impression that Harry and the Half-Blooded Prince are two different entities... but why can't they be the same person? Harry has both muggle and wizard blood. And by pulling out the sword kind of signifies that he has some sort of link to godric... maybe a sucessor? the story of excalibur does come to mind as well.

I can't quite remember the Neville/Harry details of the end of Phoenix (sum1 referesh my memory) - the prophecy was connected to Harry or Neville Longbottom - because Dumbledore said sumthin about a boy born in July....can anyone remember?

The prophecy, out of the mouth of their divination teacher (whose name i can't recall at the moment), spoke of a boy born in the month of july, from parents who thrice defied voldemort's will. and Voldemort shall mark that boy as his equal. The last part is what sets apart neville and harry.

I read somewhere, after the title was first revealed, that JK Rowling herself said neither Harry nor Voldemort is the Half-Blood Prince.

You mean professor Trelawny. Harry is not the half-blood prince. Nor is Voldemort. Nor is Neville.

On August 16th, the door on JKR's site opened giving us the following excerpt of book 6, which describes the Half-Blood Prince:

(He) looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp.

Does this sound like Voldemort, Harry, or Neville?
Ahh llamas......is there anything they can't do?
