Russian Composers
on: June 25, 2005, 12:47:45 AM
This certainly isn't a complete list (no Medtner, Rimsky-Korsakov, etc) but I didn't want to make it too big, so I only placed composers that I am more familiar with (these 6).

this is a hard poll
i am voting for rachmaninov and prokofiev, but stravinsky is also my favourite, however since this is a piano forum, and  i think rachmaninov and prokofiev are obviously better piano composers.  love shostakovichs and scriabin and tchaikovsky too, hehe, so basically , i would have voted for all if i could.
but again, as far as composition for the piano is concerned, its rach and prok

Scriabin followed by Stravinsky. Really, I'm not a fan of any Russian music. At least not YET, anyway.

Russian music just kicks arse, i love all of it, but yeah for piano it has to be Prokofiv and Rachmaninoff.  I can't say too many good things about Stravinsky though, Rite of Spring... so good, it's all just great.  Ah to be a Russian.

There's so much amazing russian music... It wasn't too hard to make a choice for me though - picked Prokofiev and Rachmaninov, perhaps because I've heard more music by them than by the other composers. I love Prokofievs symphonies, his seventh is one of my favourite orchestral works. Rachmaninov wrote so many memorable melodies... they're both very fascinating and different composers.

Tchaikovsky  :) :)
I also like Rachmaninoff. Never into Shostakovich, and very little from Stravinsky and Scriabin...

Ah to be a Russian.

Aww I know! (Except wouldn't fancy having all that Stalin/communist history, can't have been easy living through the Russian revolution or the Stalin occupation, actually going further back Igor the terrible didn't sound too nice either...) Russians seem like such a determined and hard working nation. Would love to marry a Russian concert pianist.  ::)

Mmmmm.

I can't really decide between Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Stravinsky and Scriabin. And come to think of it Tchaikovsky is pretty durn good too.

Poll is too hard.
