How to login
on: June 27, 2005, 10:25:27 PM
NOTE: This information is only concerning pianoforum.net accounts registered before June 2005.

As we are now migrating all forum accounts to a new system all preious pianoforum.net memebers who can not login need to follow the instructions below.

How to Login

Because of security  reasons (your passwords are stored encrypted) I can not manually move your account to our new system but your username is still reserved for you and all posts and PM:s are stored. To login to pianostreet.com (including Piano Forum) you first need to reactivate your account by entering your old username, email and password in the sign up form at
https://www.pianostreet.com/amember/signup.php.
Once you have successfully done this you can log in as usual using the login button.

To support the community or not

If you have enjoyed your time at pianoforum.net so far and think you will benefit from our growing resources in the future I sincerely hope you will support the development of our community by upgrading to the Gold membership. I am very concerned about keeping the fees at a minimal and can offer you all this for only $3 per month, without any sign-up fees or other obligations.
If you do not find our service worth paying for or can not afford it, you can alway go for the free Silver Membership that includes everything you had as a pianoforum.net member as well as some free sheets.
(Please note that Gold members can switch back to a free Silver account anytime.)

Your displayed forum name

If you had a "displayed name" in the forum that was different than your user name you will need to set that once again by clicking "account settings" in your profile.
Please note that this is only for resetting your old name, changing to a new different displayed name is NOT allowed.

Possible reactivation problems

First of all, if you have any kind of problem:
1. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A NEW ACCOUNT WITH A DIFFERENT USERNAME! It will only make things worse.
2. Email me and I will solve 100% of the problems almost immediately.

If you get the message that your username has already been taken you have most likely not entered exactly the same email address or password as you had at pianoforum.net. Try again or contact me. Your username is just reserved for you so don't worry!

Another possible problem can be that you have signed up for a separate pianstreet account using the same email as in your forum account. Then your forum account is blocked and you will need to ask me to dissable your pianostreet account. (You will usually not lose anything of value.)
If you still don't get it to work, send me an email at webmaster@pianoforum.net including your account details and I will sort it out for you.

I can't seem to renew my PF account. This is due to me ALREADY having a PS account. THus, i can't use my old email and username, cuz they're "already in use"

of course, i could use my ps account, but then... all my... posts... - sniff sniff -

I had exactly the same problem, what works is if you go to your pianostreet profile and change your email adress to something other than the one you used in pianoforum.
Another way is to delete your pianostreet account and Nils could do that for you if you email him. He has done this before! This way you could sign up without it saying that someone is using that name etc. I was very happy to have my status back :)

Yes, just send me an email and I will sort it out.
It is very easy to solve but I will not edit or delete anything before I get your permission via email.
Please don't worry, no one will lose any posts, PMs or account status of their previous pianoforum.net accounts.

Definitely, I find it annoying to have to sign in every time, and also after I went to other websites.

Nils,
Even after you deleted the account I already had at PS I was getting the 'name already taken' error, so I've created this account. I'm sure that I was entering the right email address.

If you entered the correct email and you got that error you had not entered the correct password. For security reasons you need the same password as your old pianoforum account.

Nils,
I've just done that and it worked (I got the confirmation email) but I can't login. The software you use to manage the PS members doesn't work with certain characters in the passwords. My password on that account will appear to be blank (this happened when I originally signed up for PS). Any chance you could reset it?

Edit:I've only just read your email.

Yes, the passwords are now limited to standard characters and numbers so if you were using something else I will need to manually reset your password, which I have now done for you.

Nils,
I can't seem to be able to log into my PF account.  This current account was the one I used for pianostreet and I can log into this one fine but not the faulty_damper account on pianoforum.net.  I tried everything but nothing seems to work.  When I input faulty_damper onto the entry to send password, it says it is not in the database.  Please help.

I keep having to log in twice.  The first log in brings me back to the log in page, same one.  I log in the second time and I'm in.  My Piano Street account info appears.  At least it's consistent, but am I doing something wrong with the log in?

I just got an other idea about why you may have to log in twice...
If you try to login from the pianoforum.net domain you will not get logged in to pianostreet.com (as logins always depend on domains) and are therefor asked to login once again.
I have now hardcoded all links to the login form to pianostreet.com so the problem should not appear anymore.
Please remember to update your bookmarks if you have any to the login form.

I made my last post in January and when I tried to log in last week, I was not able to do so.

I e-mailed webmaster@pianoforum.net and, a few days later customerservice@pianostreet.com , but I received no reply.

So, trying to find my own way to log in, I found the first post in this thread and followed its directions, but I am still not able to use my name - "Herve", with a capital "H".  I now am relegated to a small "h" and I fear that I have done something bad.

How do I get my original user name back?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Herve, you used to be able to change your name on your own by going to your profile and then to account settings, then "displayed name".  But that feature is frozen to users and I think Nils will have to adjust it for you.  You havn't done anything wrong though, for some reason they are just requiring all lower case names at login.

Glad to have you back  :)
