George Whitefield Chadwick
on: June 28, 2005, 05:11:58 PM
I came across this cd the other day. I thought I would share it with you guys because this composer has never been recorded before. The composer's name is George Whitefield Chadwick, and he was American and apparently well respected during his time. But once he died, his works fell into obscurity. I guess this pianist Peter Kairoff dug up his works somewhere and recorded them. I have to say that I bought and really like this cd! It's filled with shorter lyrical types of pieces like grieg or mendelssohn. I was just wondering if anyone of you guys have heard of this composer before. You should definitely check out this cd.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know of this CD. I have the Dover "Nineteenth-Century American Piano Music" which includes two Chadwick pieces (Caprice and Scherzino). They're nice pieces and deserve to be heard more.
