Hi
The standard of playing might be different in different states, but i can tell you what it was like for me where i live (victoria), when i was auditioning for bachelor of music courses last year. I managed to hear (from outside the room) a few people auditioning, and generally, most of them weren't that good. i was kinda surprised.. i was a bit worried about the competiton, because i've only been playing for 4 years (last exam i did was gr. 8 AMEB).
When it comes to people's technical ability, i think they're probably looking for people with at least a gr 6 or 7 level of technique, so that they have something substantial to work with. And, as long as they're at about that technical level, what's really important is the candidate's musicality and passion/enthusiasm for music
by the way, what grade are you at?
and what state do you live in?
work hard, have fun

hi
glad to hear that i've set your mind at ease
it sounds like you're really really enthusiastic about doing your bmus! that's really cool!
i'm having a great time with my bmus course. i'm studying at the victorian college of the arts, and they put a lot more emphasis on performance than written work, which i love
(as apposed to the other universities around)
hope you get into the course, and even if you didn't, you could try again the next year, but i reckon there'll be plenty of people who won't want it as much as you seem to.
good luck!
