Fingering in Ravel's Sonatine
on: July 02, 2005, 08:32:42 AM
Hi!

I was just wondering how other people play the first three bars in the Sonatine? If you keep the LF thumb kind of between the right hand thumb and the index finger, or if you "take" the left hand thumb "outside" the RH thumb during the second bar?

I don't know what I should stick too. That is, if I keep the LF thumb "inside" (between the RH thumb and the index finger, which in the second bar gets pretty tight) or if it's better to move the LF thumb outside the RH thumb in bar 2, then I get a more free movement, but then it's more difficult to get a smooth transition...

Any thoughts about this?

I hope I managed to explain clearly enough what my problem is... I'm not good at explaining such..  :P

Start with Lh 1 between the Rh 1,2. When you get to the D in the melodic line then Lh 1 under Rh1,2, but as soon as you move from that you will have to get back to the LH 1 between Rh 1,2.
