Favorite Toccata?

Which sounds the best, I'm not asking the most difficult, or which you can play best, the one you like to listen to the most...

Sorry for asking, but is the "Ravel Toccata" the Toccata from Le Tombeau de Couperin?

The Prokofiev Toccata kicks so much metaphorical ass it's not even funny.  But I would probably have voted for the Bowen Op. 155 if it were up there.

The Bach Toccata and Fugue for organ beats them all. >_>

But out of those I vote for the Schumann.

heard the toccata in A major by Paradisi on the radio the other day - and loved it.  forget who was playing it.

of the three listed:  prokofiev
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

I chose Prokofiev, and now, after listening to the other two, I can't change my vote.

Out of those 3 I picked the Prokofiev. But I would have chosen the Debussy Toccata from Pour le Piano. That is also a very nice toccata but not as well known unfortunately I guess.

If I have to pick one from the list,  it would be Ravel's Toccata. But, I also like Balakirev's Toccata.

vote goes to prokofiev...

but Poulenc wrote a toccata, last mvt of his Trois Pieces.

and there is a modern russian composer called Kapustin who wrote a Toccatina, as part of 8 Jazz Etudes or concert etudes, and it kicks total ASS.

Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor contains the greatest Toccata ever written.

Is the Ravel Tocatta comparable to Prokofiev in difficulty?  I have listened to but never actually sat down to look at the music for both.

I agree with this. I chose Ravel out of the three listed though. I have never really fallen in love with the Prokofiev

My thoughts exactly! Did anyone notice Toccata in D in the movie the Aviator? Hint: they weren't playing with a pipe organ...that's whats so great about Bach. His music trancends the instrument.

Bach anyone?
Bach wrote seven Toccatas for the piano- my favorites are C minor and G minor
But besides that- the Prokofiev wins hands- down

I'll have to go with Schumann...though if it had been nominated, I would've voted for Chachaturian's.
