I lost a mouse once. I found her when I stepped on a pile of clothes and it squeaked and moved.

relax..hamsters dont necessarily "run away"..the simply "run and hide"...my advice to you..get oatmeal oats..maybe some corn kernals..or bird seed if you have any..OR..plain old hamster food which i assume you have...and place thee itesm in maybe 3-4 areas..one in the closet..next under the bed...perhaps behind things or in other "cozy critter" places..
while placing these..keep in mind hamsters usually sleep right after they eat..they also sleep for up to 20 hours a day and are CRANKY creatures that dont like to be woken up, they are primarly nocturnal animals thus explaning their latenight wheel running behavior and outruling the notion of him doing it just to dirturb your nights sleep on purpose haha...anyways..the best way to look for him would br throughout midday, check your food stations and you might find him laying next to a halfeaten pile of food..this usually works..i doubt he'd run outside as hamsters dont really enjoy the beating sun..they preffer dark snuggly places...good luck..

Good luck finding your hamster. I had a friend once who lost his hamster. He eventually found his hamster in his garage behind a washer and dryer. But it was too late, the hamster was already dead.
