The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more

What kind of applesauce should I buy?
on: July 13, 2005, 12:23:42 AM
I have recently discovered a new passion for applesauce.

The jewel brand is good, so I can only imagine what other brands would be great.

Anyone a fanatic?

Let's use this thread as a salute to applesauce and all of the good times it has given us.

I don't know how to make applesauce and now I'm curious.  How do you do it?  Of course , could find out with a little research, but who wants to do that?

dear thalberg,

get yourself a pressure cooker.  they make applesauce fast.  and, really good ribs, too.  pressure cooked and then bbq'd.  some let you put layers of stuff in, so you can cook several things at once.  we bought one a while back and used it a lot.  so much, it's pretty gone.  if i bought one again, it would be larger size.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

You can make applesauce in the microwave. Peel and core the apples and cut into chunks. Put into a microwaveable bowl, cover,  and nuke until soft, then mash. Or, you can make it on the stove, in which case you need to add a little water, cook over low heat, and stir frequently to prevent it from burning.  If you want sugar, add it after it's cooled (you'll be able to taste the right amount when it's cool better than when it's hot).

Variation: add a little lemon rind and a small piece of cinnamon stick before cooking (remove the cinnamon before mashing). Also really good with pears!
