It was AMAAAAZING! BTW, if you haven't finished it yet, don't read on (in case i give too much away - it will spoil it for you otherwise!)

It was so exciting and gripping then very very sad towards the end. So much happened!I haven't been able to put it down since it arrived in the post yesterday morning. I only finished it a couple of hours ago but still in shock about a certain character's death!  :'( I actually cried when i read it, which was rather embaressing as i was in a park in Cheltenham at the time waiting to go to a conducting masterclass surrounded by alot of ppl!  ::) Luckily i was wearing sunglasses... 8) I really didn't think JK would have the nerve to kill off such a main character!

I can't believe Snape!!! All this time and Harry suspected right! Poor Dumbledore was completely fooled. I loved the way we weren't really sure throughout the book, as Snape's loyalty to Voldemort was revealed so early in the book so i still thought he was just putting on an act as i didn't think we would find out something so crucial so early.

Also - i loved all the love stories going on! Lol, i always wanted Harry and Ginny to get together, i think they probably eventually will properly in the future, it's just Harry has quite a few important things to get done first! And i can see why JK has dragged out the whole Ron-Hermione thing for a bit longer. It would have been a bit too much if they'd got together too, but they are definitely on the verge! And who would have thought Tonks and Lupin?! I was rather pleased as Lupin is my favourite character, he is sooo sweet.

Poor poor Bill! I can't believe what happened, i just can't believe the death eaters managed to get into Hogwarts! Who would have thought? I felt kinda sorry for Malfoy in the end, he's really out of his depth now, and what will become of Severus? He will surely have to go into hiding now, I think he will be a difficult wizard to catch because he is such a knowledgable wizard. I still can't believe he would turn his back on Dumbledore after all this time.

It was quite a complex book i thought. I love the way as the books progress we learn more and more about previous books - like learnign about Tom Riddle's diary from book 2 being a Horcrux.

This book (at the moment) is my 2nd favourite (after the Goblet of Fire), but i will re-read it again and it may well become my favourite. Each death in each book seems to get more serious, who knows what will happen next? And will Harry really not complete his final year at Hogwarts?? Surely he will?! It's so sad that he is so alone now.  :'(

This book was far too sad for me.

Hopefully next book, we'll see harry in his full glory.

The next is supposed to be the last, right?

Yes it was very sad - but i wasnt expecting it to be, it wasn't really sad until near the end. Do u reckon Dumbledore will still be able to give advice etc from his portrait? I found that bit really sad, when he took up a place in his portrait, as it meant he really had gone for good.  :'(

The funeral was so sad  :'(

Lol i can't believe how seriously i take Harry Potter but they are such gripping books!

Yeah, but none of the book had ANY happyness, the entire thing was melodramatic.  It really put me in a somber mood.  My mom was like "Oh, how was it", and I was like "Just shut up."  That's how sad it was.

Well, maybe Snape isn't bad

Maybe Dumbledore wanted to have himself killed by Snape, so that Voldemort would trust Snape more, so that Snape could spy for the order.

But, yeah, that's just speculation, and with Rowling, you will never know.

I loved the Harry-Ginny thing. I've always liked Ginny.

Overall, I found it more fun to read than book 5.

Yes! I found it easier to read than book 5. I thought the plot moved faster.

I found Book 5 more somber tho? Don't you think? I was just glad that Harry wasnt a moody teenager for the whole book this time!

I thought it was an excellent book, but so, so sad.  :'( I really loved Dumbledore and I can't believe he died. Some people are saying that maybe Dumbledore realised he had to sacrifice himself, and let Snape kill him to make it seem to the Death Eaters that Snape was still on their side. Interesting theory, methinks.

That was awful! I've been wondering about the portraits. Is it the persons ghost or what? Or is it a channel of communication between the living and the dead? But what about those in pictures who aren't dead?

lol, I probably ain't gonna read this book like all the others, but I swear they are just gonna do a LOTR (Gandalf against the Balrok), and bring back Dumbledore ~_~

Infact I can't not think they are different people, they look identical in my minds eye...

And as for mikeyg's comment, I felt like that after Star Wars Episode 3... too many bad things for the mind (better then another friggin happy ending though), now I know why people watched it 3 times in a row at the cinema ~_~

Oh yes? Well everyone who's ever said that to me i always say "have you read all the books?" and their reply is usually "only the first 3 pages of the 1st and i got bored" (that's no way to judge a whole series of books!) or "er...no...it just doesn't appeal to me"... ::)

I rest my case  :)

I am not saying that the books are worthless. I personally have never gotten so excited over them and was determined to read them all. That is all. Just not pricking my fancy.

I've just finished the book, and I wasn't so shocked by Dumbledore's death - I always expected JK Rowling to kill him off in the sixth book, because during the whole series, it has seemed to me that Harry has to face Voldemort himself.  Especially after Sirius' death, it's as though he has been cocooned by all these people too long - first his parent had to go, then his godfather, and now Dumbledore just all makes sense.

I must admit, though, that I was surprised Snape did it.  I am still in two minds about whether Snape is really loyal to Voldemort or not.  Plus Wormtail is now living in his house, and we haven't seen Wormtail come and repay his debt to Harry yet (as Dumbledore said he has to, at the end of book 3).

I think it's a better book than book 5 - much more gripping, and I agree with Jenni R's initial post that the action is heaps faster.  But I read it in a bit of a hurry, so I will need to read it again to decide if I like it better than 4.

Very true, it suddenly dawned on me that Harry has to be alone to face Voldemort in this book too.

Yes i'd forgotten about Wormtail! There is some unfinished business there.

The more i think about Snape killing Dumbledore the more i'm thinking perhaps Dumbledore and Snape had something planned....either Dumbledore sacrificed himself (as someone has already said) or perhaps he isn't really dead after all? I guess he had the funeral though and that seemed pretty genuine, although if only Dumbledore and Snape had some sort of deal then nobody else would have a clue about it and they would be genuinely upset.

Plus Dumbledore now has his own portrait in his study....also Dumbledore repeatedly tells Harry he "completely trusts" Snape in book 6 as well as all the other books and Harry has got things wrong before, an experienced and very wise wizard like Dumbledore is unlikely to be caught out. Plus Snape is very good at occlumency which he could use against Dumbledore or Voldemort...

My dad also reminded me about the beginning. Is there some relevance for the muggle prime minister being in the first chapter? - I'd completely forgotten about that. My dad thinks perhaps there is but i think that it was just to begin the book - to make the reader aware that the magical related disasters also effected the muggle community i.e pretty bad stuff had been happening since we last read about Harry in book 5.

But I read it in a bit of a hurry, so I will need to read it again to decide if I like it better than 4.

Me too!

As I said before, read the theory about DD and Snape here: https://www.livejournal.com/users/garlandgraves/3409.html

It sounds very convincing, imo.

Still not finished reading book 5 yet (although have bought book 6  ;D). Saw the bit earlier about who dies in book 6 (don't worry it doesn't spoil it for me), feel abit guilty today because I thought yesterday it was Ron who dies and nearly had a 14 year old pupil in tears last night  :o

Those theories on that livejournal post are very interesting. They make a lot of sense, and are pretty convincing, but JK Rowling has a knack for coming out with absolutely ingenious plots that knock everything else out of the water.

I really liked how book 6 completely set up book 7. In all of the other books, Harry doesn't really have a purpose at the end of the summer. His "big task" is revealed during the school year. It's much more of a cliff-hanger when he knows what he has to do next.

The other interesting thing I found about reading this book, is that it felt completely familiar. It felt like I book I've read hundreds of times, I just didn't know what would happen next. Rowling has a way of writing that makes it very comfortable, though suspenseful at the same time.

And now I'm rambling. Cheers.
