I need some information about Estonia piano
on: July 21, 2005, 01:44:23 PM
What do you think about Estonia piano? Iwould like to buy  piano for student Music School. I try compare which is the best:  Petroff or Estonia? Both are rather in the same price. I need some comparative information of the features of the piano, especially about the keys- comparative weight of the Esatonia, Petroff or the Steinway.

 :) Hello gralago

I was looking for a grand piano myself, and ended with a Yamaha C5.  I thought about Estonia from hearing all the great praise with their sound quality, but decided it was too much for a new Estonia.  I have heard they had problems with earlier models in the past, so I would be careful.   :)  I suggest you do some research of Estonia's before you buy. ;)

By the way, I wouldn't have an Estonia in a Music School. In my opinion, I think the pianos is more for home atmosphere/private use  than a commerical one.   :P Estonia's are little more temperamental but with great sound quality.  It's a type of piano that would need alot of TLC.   ;)  I would look into something more commerical usable pianos like the Yamaha's, Kawai's, Petrof's, Steinway's, etc. ;) These piano's are durable and reliable workhorse.   :)

gralago,

Key weight numbers don't tell the full story, how much sound you get out of pressing the keys using the same effort will affect how "heavy" you "feel" the keys are. Best thing to do is to go play them all and get a feel for them all yourself.

Personally, among all the new Estonia 168, 190, Petrof V, IV, III, II, and Steinway S, M, L, B, D that I have played, I think they are all suitable for piano students -- one may argue a bit on which one feels "a bit heavier" or "a bit lighter" than the other, but those small differences are, well, "small," and I don't think they would make any notable difference to students' progress.
