As one who worked for two small pipe organ companies as a youth,
Let me give agreement to the others about for example..."the strings giving a vib. to the room..." etc.
I was taught in O.T.J training, that in all media and sound that used speakers, you cannot ever move the air...both in as large a quantity and in the direction's with speakers, or horns, as the instruments in acoustic form actually move, including for orchestra and band...
This was then taught basically the same way when I took coursework in acoustics in college..(most of which I hardly remember anymore..!)...(and in pipe organ, I am quite sure of it, when I remember the truly large quantities of air used)...(Of course all this was some 35 years ago...

)
I realize that sound reproduction set-ups DO move air, but they also are sealed in a sense, and have movement to the other direction as well, (as that is the sound often reinfourced by ports on many systems), so there is a hard to control series of un-natural effects going on, sometimes interfering with sounds...
Speaker and synth people have been fighting this for YEARS, to the point now of using sampled material and super volume levels with sometimes hundreds of speakers as well as all kinds of units that change the color and resonance in subtle ways..........(It is true that this may not be the case for electrostatics, of course...much harder to determine overall...)
Anyone know new truths about this? or know if there is a thread here that gives some thoughts of other piano lover's feelings on this subject? Everytime I get on this, most people don't want to talk about "cents", and "pitch discrimination" and most of all, "tone color", as determined by human hearing...and may I say, the hugh ammount of material on the web is often very self-serving and contradictory, when not based purely on the scientific material...

I also say..."carry on"...I expect few if any comments on this, but thought it worth a try.
My Regards, John
