Piano Street Magazine:
The Prodigy Who Saw Into the Future – Lili Boulanger’s Piano Music

A teenage girl with forward-looking ideas, Lili Boulanger had enough determination to successfully navigate the competitive, patriarchal, and conservative music scene of Paris. Despite a constant fight against illness, she achieved great mastery as a composer, and left behind a significant catalog of works characterized by intense emotional depth, in a sophisticated, post-Romantic, Impressionist style. How long have you been playing the piano for. The longer you've played the better you are.

I think it's safe to assume that not everyone on this forum started in that five year window. ::)

The longer you've played the better you are.

I see. So  therefore someone who has played for five years and never practices will automatically be better than someone who has played for three years and practices regularly and efficiently?

ha!  This isn't even a remotely true statement.  It's kind of like those "If one presumes that all other variables are held constant then it may be proven that......" statements.

that would mean anyone over 30 who began about the same age i did would have to be automatically better than me, right?

no comment.

Started at age 4 and stopped lessons at 8 (Grade 2) - then my teacher passed away and I never took lessons nor play the piano - picked it back up at 16 and have been playing, though not regularly, without a teacher since then.
