This reminds me of a section from Ravel's Tombeau de Couperin.....

Actually, I love this piece.  Granted, I love everything by Ravel.

I think this is like the only piece by Ravel I don't love.  I just find it loud and obnoxious.

Mabye you have a bad recording?  I have Angela Hewitt's, and when played in the correct neoclassical manner, its really a very gentle, flowing work like Mozart (with a few exceptions in the Toccata and Rigaudon.)

I have a theory.  Skepto, you seem to really like modern, 20th/21st century music best, (in addition to Scarlatti, it seems).  Anyways, the Ravel work is a sort of neoclassical/baroque gesture by him, and very much so at that, and mabye this contributes to your dislike of it?

Love the Prelude, Rigaudon and Tocatta, the Menuet and Forlane are meh soso...  The rigaudon, is it near as difficult as the tocatta?  It sounds impressive...

I don't really care for it either.  I think Pour le Piano owns it.

The menuet is very beautiful. I didn't think so at first when my teacher made this same statement but as I work on it more, the more I feel the pleading, yearning nature of this piece, which is where the beauty lies. The middle slow section is also very exciting as the chords build up. I also love the prelude, forlane and rigaudon. THe prelude is very beautiful and has an impressionistic feel. Forlane is just hilarious/whimsical if you get it just right. Rigaudon is very energetic and fun. Did not work on fugue nor toccata. For those who do not like this suite, have you heard the orchestral version of it? I first heard an orchestral version and that's what prompted me to want to learn it.

S'great, but if one doesn't care for neo-classicism it would be annoying. I ussually don't like neo-classicism but I like this, probably because I love all of Ravel, except maybe for Serenade Grotesque which I merely like.

Maybe you should play Le Tombeau de Cynthia by Yoko. ;D

I like anything by Ravel- but I wouldn't class Le Tombeau de Couperin as one of his best. It's a nice collection of pieces, but i'd choose something like the Miroirs or Gaspard over it anytime.
