Regular piano with "silent" option??
on: August 02, 2005, 07:37:21 PM
Is there an upright that can be played silently with headphones but which has a touch of an acustic (not a digital)? So far I haven't seen one. The keys of the digital feel different.

Thankfully

The Yamaha-SilentSeries. (You can have a look at www.yamaha.com). I have this kind of piano and I'm very satisfied with it.
There's also a series called "Disklavier" which has more possibilities than the Silent (I think you can record yourself or something).

bye

Seiler makes a silent series too, Great quality.

I've played the Yamaha, it's well done.

I my hunting, I asked one dealer about installing a silent option on a piano after purchase. He asked me why, and I gave him the usual "don't want to wake the family" business.

His opinion was that, if you're set on a piano that doesn't have the silent option at purchase, installing it may decrease the value of the piano, and may affect the way it plays. Price-wise, he said I'm better off getting a cheap keyboard to practice on for those time.

Having said that, however, it a piano was manufactured that way, it's OK.

PS: I played a Seiler about 3 months ago.  Sweet, really sweet!
