Enjoyable nonclassical music
on: July 21, 2003, 09:24:52 PM
Spending a little bit of time surfing this board, seems to me that the majority of us are into classical.  I am too, but recently I've been thinking if it is my aspiration to become a better pianist and musician, perhaps I should delve into other musical works.  Can anyone help me here? I don't know how to label my level of playing, if I have one.  I've been playing 3 months and I like it a lot so far, but I think while learning more complicated classical i'd like to supplement it with possibly easier or less complicated nonclassical: possibly jazz, blues, pop.
Any recommendations?  Oh I'm working on this book that says 3-4a-4b whatever that means and it has a bunch of classical music in it from the different periods, from bach to grieg.  Sorry just trying to make sure no one recommends something far fetched from my level.
Reguards, Issac

Look for books by Bill Boyd (jazz, rhythmic pieces) and Marther Mier (rhythmic, rags).  They should work well for your level, are readily available, and interesting, fun pieces.
