Ideas for a new piece
on: August 03, 2005, 03:16:55 AM
Hey everyone. My teacher has given me some choices for a piece to play for next term. I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on enjoyability, difficulty, etc. The pieces are
Mendelssohn: Phantasie in F-sharp minor, op. 28
Liszt: Hungarian Rhapsody no. 14 in F minor
Grieg: Selections from Norwegian Peasant Dances
Albinez: Rondena or Navarra
Thanks

I never played a piece of Albéniz, but I heard from a lot of pianists that it's a lot of fun to play! Kinda Spanish if I'm not wrong..

I think you could gain alot form playing the mendelssohn. A large scale piece with many technical and musical difficulties.

I'm starting to lean the direction of Albeniz. Navarra is really cool but seems a lot harder. If I decide on this any recommendations for what publisher to get the music from? I dont think there is a Henle edition. What do people normally use for Albeniz?
Thanks

Uh, what's the deal with all these spam posts lately. Well whatever. I still need help with finding a good publisher for Albeniz's music. Any ideas?

Huh? All of them? Sorry i'm not quite understanding what you mean. All of the publishers? Or are you saying I should play all of those pieces? I guess that makes more sense. Well I need it for juries, but I only need one more piece. I can't play everything for juries. Besides I wouldn't be able to do all of that stuff at once. I'm not that good. But if you have any suggestions on a good publisher for Albeniz please let me know.
Thanks

I meant all the pieces. And personally if I had to choose only one, it would the mendelsohn's fantasy. I play it

I don't get why people make these topics. Can't your teacher tell you the relative difficulty of the pieces he/she wants you to play? Can't your teacher play the pieces he/she is offering so that you can choose that way?

Ask your teacher what publisher he/she recommends. Maybe he/she can get you a discount at the music store.

I was just curious to what other people's opinions were. My teacher doesn't always assign pieces that he himself has played. That's not so surprising is it? Anyways I have my own ideas about the difficulty but as I said I was interested in hearing how other people felt on the pieces, not just on the difficulty but on how they liked them. As far as the publisher goes I just wondered if there were any common ones that people on this site like to use.
