Best Recording of Ravel Left-Hand Concerto?
on: August 03, 2005, 07:22:11 PM
I'm about to start it since my right hand thumb is out with a bad sprain.  I really don't know the piece, so which recording(s) should I get?

Casadesus with Philadelphia Orchestra-Ormandy (Sony Classical) and Zimmerman with London Symphony-Boulez (DG) are great. I know Fleisher has recorded this piece but I haven't heard it. I would imagine it to be noteworthy.

I would say listen to Zimerman/Boulez and/or Samson Francois/Cluytens. Best versions I've heard. And while you're in the mood for left hand concertos, listen to Korngold's as well.  :)
