I would almost say that this etude IS preparatory rep. for this type of rudiment.  For instance, the 10/7 might prepare you for something like Rachmaninoff's 39/3 or Prokofiev's Tocatta.  If you want it, jump right into it.

Hmmm... This is a very good preparatory Etude for toccata style pieces as Schumann's Toccata or Prokofiev's Toccata. This is about two independent motions of the hand, demanding a lot from the wrist. I would practice the main motions of the right hand, to get used to it, and I believe Gradus ad Parnassum's 1st Etude could help with wrist force. But I hold on to the thought that Alfred Cortot's preparatory exercises are the best for this occasion, they go right down to it. I can't think of any preparatory repertoire pieces that deal with the same technique. :P

I didn't count on the one...  :(

So, what would be the approach to this piece then?

O god, I can't play 2 measures of that up to speed, and I wanted to try the Prok Tocatta  8) I've gotta pay more attention to what I should stay away from...
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

Sandor, in his book, puts this etude next to Liszt's Transcendental Etude no. 5 ("Feux Follets") and Schumann's Toccata op. 7, but I don't think they are easy enough to be considered preparatory repertoire (maybe the contrary, chopin would prepare for both).

Thanks in advance to all,
Lucas
