I was wondering if anyone has a copy of Kavalevsky 24 preludes. Also, which 4 or 5 do you suggest for me to play in a competition.l

How good are you??

There are some preludes that are mid-upper-level, and some that are ARCT in difficulty.

These are great pieces.  Quite a variance in difficulty through the cycle.  Depending on what you wanted to show... the opener is very simple, short and lyrical, could show nice voicings etc if you need to do that.  I don't remember all the numbers, but 11 (I think) is the sparkly high B major, impressive sounding at warp speed and not very difficult.  There are a few A major lyrical ones that are similar to one another, both with a sort of Gershwin feel, to me, and some interesting rhythms if that's a strong point for you.  Oh!  The Eb minor with the somewhat interlocked hands, #14? is very exciting and impressive, also fun to play and longer than most others.  And for a competition, I would definitely close with the last one, which is long and somewhat difficult and has several (very) different sections.  Let us know what you decide!  Good luck.

I believe that these are great competition choices.  I have learned no. 16 in less than 2 weeks - not saying that it isnt difficult.  The good thing about these are that they are relaively easy, but do tend to show off the performers character and technical brilliance.  Definately check out no 16, its the only one I know of.  Also, I need to learn 2 others to play as a set.  Does anyone have any reccomendations?  I play at the ARCT level.
