its very interesting to think of what you would play...

personally i know a couple people who will be entering the next competition, and i may be entering myself in 2009.

always good to plan in advance ;)

First stage:
Toccata and fugue in C minor
Mazeppa
Feux-follet
Maybe something else

Second stage:
Apres une lecture de Dante
Chopin Etude op.10
Balakirev Islamey
A short flashy showpiece

Third stage:
Liszt Sonata in B minor
Prokofiev Sonata no.7
Liszt rigoletto paraphrase
Bowen Tocatta

Fourth stage:
Prokofiev 3rd concerto

I think that would be an amazing program  :D

yeah lots of great music!

there seems to be alot of liszt though, youd have to be very good at liszt, and the way you have the sonata at the start of the 3rd round, id put it at the end.

that is quite badass! lots of fireworks, not very much slow stuff though, right? ;)

you have to show them all sides of your playing, sometimes whispering can be more powerful than shouting ;)

The Dante sonata has a lot of lyrical, slow parts. Islamey has a slow part. The sonata in B minor has a lot of slow parts too. Chopin etudes op.10 has some slow etudes. And the prokofiev sonata no.7 has some slow parts too. So there is much slow stuff !

i know its quite demanding, but thats the point, to take a risk and push yourself.

they look for musicianship over virtuosity, and i have both in abundance, so i think im in with a chance  :)

First Round:

Prelude No. 2 in Bminor (Rach)
Ballade No. 1 (Chopin)
Sonata No. 2 (Rach)
Grand Galop Chromatique (Liszt)

Second Round

Islamey (Balakirev)
Reminiscences de Don Juan (Liszt)
or Reminiscences de Norma (Liszt)
or Tannhauser Overture (Liszt)
Sonata No. 3 (Prokoffiev)

Third Round

Gaspard de la Nuit (Ravel)
Sonata in B Minor (Liszt)
Variations on Carmen (Horowitz-Bizet)

Concerto Round

Concerto No 2 (Prokoffiev)
or Totentanz (Liszt) (Which I would probably decide against since I already packed in three other significant Liszt pieces)

umm..

considering my live recording marks at exactly 22 min, 25 min is very possible.

but yes, my 22-min rec is too fast, i have to admit; the concert got me very excited and I played quite fast (but not rushed though)

it would surely sound better at 25-28 min range

i like your program amelia (as well as most all the others - esp iumonitos).  what if you played BOTH the fantasy and the sonata of mozart?  that's what someone suggested when i was learning the fantasy.  although the fantasy can stand on it's own.
