Rachmaninoff Prelude in C minor, Op.23 no.7 gave me trouble.
Also look into Ravel's Toccata from Le Tombeau de Couperin  :o

The Visions Fugitives are generally far from extremely difficult, aren't they?

Yeah that Tocatta is a bugger to play!  :o]

I think definately Chopin Op 10, No 2. Very Technically demanding indeed

"Pause" from Carnaval Op. 9 comes to mind.

Mendelssohn-Rachmaninoff Scherzo from a Midsummer Night's Dream is about the hairiest piece in the standard repertoire for its length.

Chopin op 10/2.  Double thirds, Double sixths... In fact all these etudes are stinky hard...especially to sound decent.

Mvmts 1 or three from Petroushka.  1st mvmt of petroushka is 2 minutes long and is hard to sound like pollini.  Mvmt three is 6 minutes long and is JUST HARD to play all the notes as written.

Bartok Etudes....AHHHH!!!! But oh so cool.

of course feux follet...
