poets/songwriters

Liszt wrote poems, to go along with some of his songs, didn't he?  If anybody has any poetry or songs they would like to share, post here!  Anything goes because anything is poetry.

I'll start with a short haiku - a form of Japanese poem.  contrary to common belief, there is no rigid 5-7-5 syllable structure, because the Japanese language does not have syllables in the english way.  There are about 50 rules about haiku, but there are 17 or less syllables.  Less than 10 words.  Show, not tell...No similes, metaphors, etc.  Here's mine:

             intensive care unit
             smelling of ammonia
             another empty bed
"Today's dog in the alley is tomorrow's moo goo gai pan."  ~ Chinese proverb

that's very to the point (and very sad).

my daughter's name is ivana
but her friend calls her 'iwanna'
and now her bro and sis call her 'iguana'

First, a William Carlos Williams poem:

This Is Just To Say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast.

Forgive me
they were so delicious
so sweet

Now, my parody:
This is Just to Say

While your back was turned
I stole your wife
who you were probably
saving for a midnight snack.

Forgive me
She was so delicious
I couldn't resist
The forbidden fruits

Next time I steal your wife
I'll make sure to tell you first.
Will that make you feel better?
I feel better already.

Why did I do it?
Do you want the long list
or the short?
Censored or explicit?

I'll tell you one last thing
In case you didn't know
Your wife makes
one hell of a sandwich.

"Today's dog in the alley is tomorrow's moo goo gai pan."  ~ Chinese proverb
