Liszt HRs
on: August 18, 2005, 08:05:47 PM
Hello. :)

I remember seeing a thread about the relative difficulty of the Hungarian Rhapsodies - someone posted the whole list - but I couldn't find it. I tried really hard.  ???

Help!

they are all about the same difficulty. some longer and more demanding than others. 9's the most fun, the least musical, and I suppose, the hardest. But they are all about the same level.

I agree that 9 is probably the hardest and most fun (but 12 is in a VERY close second)...2 is overplayed, and most people overlook no's 1 and 8, which are two of my favorites. I am also partial to number 14, which cziffra played startlingly fast, but liszt also loved it so much he added it to his orchestral and piano fantasy on hungarian themes.

2 and 6 may be overplayed, but for me they are brilliant
You either do or do not. There is no try- Yoda

Thanks for replying!

They're equally difficult? Hmm. I've only played No. 8 so far. I like 6 for its gladness and 15, too... so you think I could handle them?

im glad to hear youve played number 8...thats refreshing because its really profound for one of his lesser known rhapsodies...dont forget 12 though, which, coupled with nine, might be the hardest HR

Yeah, I really enjoyed playing that one. I found it unusually delicate and thoughtful.

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
